Kids Today
Yesterday two boys whose ages were about 10 or 11 knocked on my door wanting to earn two dollars. One said, "We cut grass". I had never seen these two boys before in my neighborhood and seeing they each had a slingshot in their back pocket; I hesitated for a second before I answered them because I was wondering what they were up to. One boy looked at the other when I told them I didn’t have anything for them to do. They looked at my grass and smiled then walked off my porch and proceeded to walk across my front yard. Roscoe my dog walked in behind them as they walked into the street. Watching through my window I saw them pull out their slingshots and stared at my dog as they started walking backwards down the street for a ways, then put their slingshots back in their pockets. I stood there looking at them thinking their parents could be proud of them. They were polite and brave; not a bit scared of my dog even though he barked at them. They also were vigilant; they did keep an eye on my dog making sure he wasn’t going to do them harm and didn’t do anything to cause him harm. I remember my dad saying you can’t judge a book by its cover as I turned and walked away from my door where I was watching the boys through the door window. I have heard some say; kids today don’t have respect for anything. I say they need to come and take a look at the kids in my neighborhood; I am sure they would change their minds.
