Illness

There seems to be a fact that can bother everyone; that is when someone in their family has a long process in healing a disease that seems like it never wants to go away. You will start seeing the stress building on the caretaker more than the person with the disease. Most don’t have the mentality to take care of someone constantly; it doesn’t mean they don’t care for them; they just get tired of the routine of it. This also makes it hard on the one with the disease. Even though they may not hear the caretaker complain; they can see the expressions on their face when asked to do something. This can be more hurtful to the person than the disease itself. Nobody wants to be put in a position that they need to be taken care of by others. They sure don’t ask for it; so why should they feel like the disease was their fault. Then there are those who try to smother the diseased person with kindness not allowing them to do anything for themselves. This too can be hurtful to the diseased person. How can this be avoided.
The answer lies in the care giver. Always allow the person to have dignity. Never approach them with an attitude as if you don’t care about the predicament their in. If the care giver can’t avoid doing this; then they need to make arrangements for some one who will help the diseased person get well and not add to what they are already going through.
